Changes to JANET
JANET, the national academic network, is changing and is introducing new management and contractual arrangements in order to recognise and deal with service needs that are more appropriate for the 21st Century.
The host company UKERNA has been re-branded to JANET(UK) together with a new logo which reflects its URL ja.net. New contracts for the Regional Network Operators, such as NNW, will be finalised by the end of 2007 and implemented in the Autumn of 2008. For more information visit the JANET website.
One of the early changes introduced this year is to bring operational responsibility for the switches that connect FE Colleges, Adult and Community Learning providers and others to JANET into the JANET domain. They were initially managed by the appropriate Regional Support Centre.
From 1st August 2007 total responsibility for the operation of these institutions’ connection to JANET has been with NNW, on behalf of JANET.
