FE Upgrades Completed
Net North West has completed its programme of bandwidth upgrades for the 64 FE Colleges connected to the network.
The JANET bandwidth of the Colleges has been upgraded on behalf of UKERNA, to either 4 Megabits per second or 10 Megabits per second, which means that more network traffic will be able to pass over the network, and will be able to do so at greater speeds. In fact the equivalent of up to 2560 full floppy disks worth of data can now be sent every second!
To support this upgrade, Net North West has also upgraded the physical bandwidth upgraded of 43 of the Colleges. Those who previously had 2Megabits per second of bandwidth now have 10Megabits per second.
These changes take place in preparation for the NNW upgrade to SuperJANET 5. This will be the first step towards increasing speed, resilience and capacity for the network over the next six years. Keep checking the website for more news on the NNW upgrade to SJ5.
